What is melt tip electroslag welding? As a welder, do you really understand it?

2024-04-10

Electroslag welding uses the resistance heat generated by electric current passing through molten slag as a heat source to melt the filler metal and base metal, and solidify to form a strong connection between metal atoms.

When starting welding, arc the welding wire, then continuously add a small amount of solid flux to melt it and form liquid slag. When the slag reaches a certain depth, increase the feeding speed of the welding wire and reduce the voltage to insert the welding wire into the slag pool and arc. extinguished, thus switching to the electroslag welding process.

Electroslag welding mainly includes melting nozzle electroslag welding, non-melting nozzle electroslag welding, wire electrode electroslag welding, plate electrode electroslag welding, etc.

Molten nozzle electroslag welding has high production efficiency and can be used for the welding of steel structure box beam partitions, large flange splicing, power plant boiler welding, and large hydraulic turbine welding. In the welding of steel structure box beams, the partitions require both sides at the same time. Welding to prevent deformation, so generally two sets are used as a set.
